Toronto, Ontario — Ford has filed a patent for a vehicle system that can capture wheel dust particles–specifically brake dust, which is a known dangerous inhalent capable of causing inflammation and affecting one’s immune system’s ability to kill bacteria.
In the patent, the automaker details a system that captures brake dust via a guide channel located in the wheel well with an inlet opening and a system that sprays liquid when needed.
As the wheel spins, the system captures the brake dust, while the liquid spraying system wets the surface and prevents the dust from re-entrance to the wheel well. The particles would move through a collection element for later disposal.
The system would most likely be used on performance-focused vehicles that typically generate larger amounts of brake dust.
