Hoffman Estates, Illinois -- September 15, 2014 -- I-CAR will offer 11 Professional Development Program (PDP) training courses at SEMA 2014 in Las Vegas November 4 to 7. PDP training options for SEMA attendees will deliver some of I-CAR’s newest courses, including the Aluminum Exterior Panel Repair and Replacement Training Course (APR01).

APR01 opened to the industry on August 25 and provides in-depth information on the array of considerations to take into account when making repair decisions on aluminum panels.

Crowd seated at 2014 I-CAR Conference. Hoffman Estates, Illinios -- September 8, 2014 -- I-CAR has announced plans for a biennial conference to be held during Industry Week. Industry Week is comprised of a number of related but separate events, including NACE/CARS, the Collision Industry Council meeting, and the I-CAR Conference.

The 2014 I-CAR Conference took place during Industry Week in Detroit this past July. The Conference, which dove deeply into emerging vehicle technologies, proved to be an outstanding event with an all-star lineup of speakers including Keynotes Robert Fascetti, Ford Vice President of Powertrain Engineering, and Larry Burns, Professor of Engineering Practice at University of Michigan and former Vice President R&D and Planning for General Motors.

Registrations for the Conference were up 50 percent over the prior year, and post-survey results showed an unprecedented 96 percent satisfaction by attendees. Attendees also expressed that I-CAR should continue to co-locate the Conference with NACE and Industry Week in the future.

Hoffman Estates, Illinois -- August 26, 2014 -- I­‐CAR has launched its all­‐new instructor‐led course, Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement (APR01).

This course provides in­‐depth information, backed by in­‐class student activities, on the array of important considerations to take into account when making decisions on aluminum panels.
 
The Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement course is extremely relevant to proper repair of vehicles with aluminum exterior panels, which are becoming more prevalent due to advancements in vehicle lightweighting.
 
“Making the right decisions at the right time can play a role in improving KPIs like cycle time and CSI,” says Josh McFarlin, I­‐CAR Director of Curriculum & Product Development. “Being able to properly assess damage and repair and replace exterior panels requires understanding the properties, characteristics, design, and construction of aluminum.”
 
During the course, students will participate in group activities to help reinforce learning and engagement as they receive instruction on techniques to remove damage.
 
Some of the techniques will include hammer and dolly use, using heat for straightening aluminum, Paintless Dent Repair (PDR), weld­‐on and glue­‐on dent removal and preventing corrosion.
 
Students will also receive demonstrations and explanations of several panel attachment and removal methods, as well as information on preparation and application.
 
Aluminum welding considerations such as welding tears and dressing the weld will also be covered.

Dan Trahey.Wixom, Michigan -- August 26, 2014 -- Car-O-Liner has hired Dan Trahey as Manager of Technical Training.

In his new role, Trahey will support the Car-O-Liner Academy training initiatives by developing technical education programs, technical writing, as well as supporting the company’s distributor and customer network through technical presentations within the North American automotive aftermarket.
 
Prior to joining Car-O-Liner, Trahey was the Auto Body, Automotive Restoration & Welding Program Director for Baker College in Flint, Michigan for five years. During this tenure, his responsibilities included curriculum creation, development of budgets as well as management of the programs overall.
