Toronto, Ontario — Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a vehicle with water generation estimation technology to act as a sensor and vessel for safe drinking water.
According to the patent application—which was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)—the proposed technology hopes to create more consistency in a vehicle’s ability to hold and generate safe drinking water, especially in areas with poor water quality.
The proposed technology would work by using sensors embedded in the vehicle that would then determine the environmental conditions of a specific geographical area, to be displayed on the vehicle’s infotainment screen.
From here, a controller would be able to come up with an estimate regarding water safety and generation potential to help users find a suitable source for drinking.
While there is no guarantee that this technology will ever make it to a manufacturing stage, the idea acknowledges that for many, safe drinking water is an ongoing challenge open to solutions.
