Winnipeg, Manitoba — According to Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), it has received 249 pothole-related claims since the start of 2024.
The Crown corporation further notes that 161 of these claims were reported in the first 11 days of this month. This number is a distinct increase from the previous year in which MPI received a total of 86 claims related to pothole damage for the whole month of February.
The increase in potholes in the province is attributed to the sudden swings in temperature which result in damage to the asphalt and create difficulties maintaining roads.
The city of Winnipeg reports that anyone who comes across a pothole that needs to be filled can contact 311 to help resolve the issue.
