Beijing, China — A video circulating Instagram and filmed in China shows a specialized robot pumping gas for drivers.
In the video, uploaded by Carfanatics, the robot—equipped with a stylized arm—is shown opening the fuel door on a white Audi. It spins the gas cap, places it aside and then retrieves the gas pump.
While the technology has been being tested in China for a number of years, a similar test is beginning to be trialed in Finland.
To function, the technology needs to accommodate a variety of vehicle heights and gas types.
With the rise of electric vehicles in the near future, this technology will have to be quickly adjusted or else risk becoming obsolete.
