St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador — Skills Canada’s Newfoundland and Labrador chapter hosted its provincial competition last Friday, March 15, where over 300 regional finalists from across Newfoundland and Labrador, including intermediate, secondary, and post-secondary students and apprentices, competed for medals in more than 40 different areas of expertise.
The event had competitors in both the Car Painting and Autobody Repair categories. In the Autobody Repair category, Laura King took home the bronze; Michael Somerton claimed silver and Adam Downey took first place and gold. All the winners attend post-secondary at the College of the New Atlantic.
Blake Burton, also a student of the College of the North Atlantic, received gold in the Car Painting category.
Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador also teased that its official list for the National Skills Canada Team Newfoundland would be out sometime this week.
In addition to its provincial competitions, Skills Newfoundland and Labrador’s event also hosted a career showcase, a ‘Try a Trade’ demonstration series and more Annual Skills Career Day programming.
